Build · Apple TV App Development

Ten feet from the screen.

On a television the input is a remote and the audience is across the room, so the interface has to carry that distance.

Overview

The living room is a different kind of computer: ten feet of distance, a remote, and content that has to look right on a large display. We build tvOS applications that move naturally under the Siri Remote, stream reliably and tie into the wider Apple ecosystem through AirPlay, SharePlay and universal purchase. For media, fitness and training, the television is where the audience already sits.

What it includes

The work, named plainly.

01

The focus engine, properly

Navigation built on the tvOS focus engine so it reads cleanly under the Siri Remote and game controllers, not a cursor bolted on.

02

Streamed to the room

AVFoundation pipelines deliver adaptive bitrate with HDR, Dolby Atmos and subtitles. The picture and sound match the screen.

03

Found from the home screen

Top Shelf content and deep links drop the viewer straight into the app from tvOS, not three menus in.

How we work

Engineered once. Maintained indefinitely.

  1. 01 Settle the content and interaction model for the ten-foot view and remote-based input.
  2. 02 Design large-scale layouts with parallax, bold type and contrast that holds on a television.
  3. 03 Build playback on AVKit for on-demand and live streaming, with DRM where required.
  4. 04 Tie into universal purchase so a buy on iPhone or iPad carries to Apple TV.
  5. 05 Test on physical Apple TV hardware with multiple remotes and Siri voice commands.
